A Day In the Rainforest One day, Paul the grasshopper was eating his lunch of three berries and a fresh, green leaf. He suddenly heard shuffling in the dry leaves. He looked behind him, and saw a large, brown lizard named Libby watching him. Paul's heart skipped a beat and he started hopping away, but unfortunately, he slipped on a rock and was too slow, so Libby ate him up.

Late one night, Jeff the fish was sleeping in the Amazon River on a pile of rocks. He woke up to feel a horrible pain, and Ed, a small, black leech, hooked onto his side. Jeff swam round and round in an attempt to get Ed off. As the pain got worse, Jeff ran into a rock, which knocked the leech off, and the stinging pain stopped. Then Jeff swam back to his bed of rocks and went back to sleep.

Once, there was a bird named Wendy, and she desperately needed a place to put her nest where no animals could eat her eggs. She scouted the area and decided that a tree with large branches high off the ground was the perfect place, so Wendy built her nest in the tree and laid two eggs. No animals ever ate her eggs or her babies.

Larry the woodpecker was flying around on an empty stomach, looking everywhere. Finally, he heard the sound of ants in a large, wide tree that was almost dead. Larry flew to the tree, landed on a branch, and started pecking at the ant-filled tree trunk. Once he got to the ants, he ate a ton. The ants were killing the tree, so it was a good thing he ate them! Larry helped the tree, while satisfying his own needs.
